review 1: Id agree with the review that this shouldnt necessarily be marketed as a "horror" story; I kept expecting more jump-out-of-your-seat frights. That being said, I still enjoyed the book while at the same time feeling so incredibly sad for the main character. The ending was a bit anticlimatic; I was expecting more of a redeeming ending for Jack as he had stuck by his beliefs through thrown tomatoes, a disbelieving wife who left him, and the verbal abuse from the locals.

... moreead a 237 page book in under four hours, but it took me longer than that and I think it’s because of the ambiguity. Are the weeds really monsters or is this just a story of a man who is thoroughly deluded? That question remains unanswered until page 236, which in my view makes this story a successful psychological thriller, but not such a great monster story. It’s not the threat of the monsters that keeps the tension up; it’s the truly horrifying lengths the caretaker is willing to go to to make sure that the field gets weeded. less

An odd little book. It has a Stephen King short story feel. It was a quick read & I enjoyed it.
