MY favourite movie of the moment – the musical The Greatest Showman – took only one award (a well-deserved one for best film song, This is Me) at last night’s 75th Golden Globe awards for movies and television, a ceremony hosted in Beverly Hills by Seth Myers.

The two other nominations for The Greatest Showman were for best actor in a musical or comedy (Hugh Jackman ) – who lost the award to James Franco for his performance in The Disaster Artist – and for best musical or  comedy, the award going to Lady Bird.

The awards ceremony, shown live on DStv’s  M-Net Movies Premiere (channel 104) at 3 o’clock this morning (South African time), will be seen again on M-Net (channel 101) at 9.10pm today (Monday, January 8).

My favourite TV series of recent months, The Handmaid’s Tale, took the Golden Globe for best series – beating This Is Us, The Crown, Stranger Things and Game of Thrones. The series also deservedly took the award for Elisabeth Moss as best actress.
