review 1: Sometimes you can tell an author is enjoying himself while he writes. Jim Butcher has it, Kevin Hearne has it and Ari Marmell has it in bounds. His storytelling is natural and fluent, his characters are well fleshed out and his world is both intriguingly different and delightfully recognizable. Imagine the typical fantasy settings. Humans, elves, dwarves, kobolds, orcs, trolls, sorcerors and demons, oh my! A sinister Dark Lord, a righteous hero... Now flip that upside down. Goblin corps is a story told from the other side. The Dark Lord assembles a special squad for daring and seemingly impossible missions. A squad consisting solely of goblins, trolls, orcs and their ilk. We get to know them and delight in their otherness. They are cruel, violent and wicked, but not evil. ... moreThey see the world in a different way and have a different morality to with it. A fascinating idea, only improved with the sly humor that shows once again the author enjoyed himself. Special ops in a fantasy setting. Recommended for any fan of fantasy. All hail the Dark Lord.
review 2: Just finished The Goblin Corps by Ari Marmell. There is a slight subgenre(?) in high fantasy that deals with the villains, usually the henchmen of the Evil Dark Lord, as the protagonists. Mary Gentle wrote Grunts, which is a wonderful novel where a troup of orcs acquires equipment from the USMC. Roger Zelazny and Robert Sheckley committed trilogy with the tales of demon Azzie Elbub and his attempts to win the millennium for Hell against the forces of Heaven. I enjoyed Marmell's novel and feel it can easily stand beside the others. less

Wow. Great read. Love the perspective from the "bad guys." Really hope the author does a sequel.

A great take on seeing the story from the side of "the bad guy". I really liked it. Long book.

Probably one of the best books written from an orc's perspective you'll ever read.
