Before I Go to Sleep – Review

Imagine waking up one day and remembering nothing about your past life. Imagine going to sleep at night, knowing that your mind will erase everything that you did today. A person with no past! Scary, isn’t it? What is even scarier? When you don’t recognize the person you wake up next to, who claims to be your dear husband.

This book has been one spine-chilling psychological thriller that I have read in many months. Heaven knows how much I crave these kind of books! Though most of the thrillers claim to take you on a nerve-racking journey, they end up being too predictable (talking about Sharp Objects here). This book is NOT to be under-estimated. S.J.Watson effortlessly takes you through Christine’s life. She wakes up everyday thinking she is still a child, doesn’t recognize her husband, knows that she will remember things only for a day. How does one cope with a situation like this? She tries to put her life together with the help of her husband and some old photographs. Things take a turn when she interacts with a suspicious man who claims to be her doctor, and she finds her private journal.

It made me nervous and excited when I was reading about her and I finished the book a bit too fast. It was so interesting to read page after page, line after line, wondering who to trust. The mystery is built very nicely. I was with Christine all the time, supporting her in my heart. And what I discovered in the end, definitely did justice to the whole story. Let’s just say, that once you start reading, you get tangled right until the end.

I can’t disclose much about the story since it would take the essence away. Have faith and cozy up this weekend with this suspense, I am sure you won’t be bored! Did I convince you enough, already?!

RATING: 5/5

Favorite Quotes from the book:

“What are we, if not an accumulation of our memories?”

“I am sliding, down, down. Toward blackness, I must not sleep. I must not sleep. I. Must. Not. Sleep.”

“It’s perfectly possible to hold two opposing points of view in the mind at once, oscillating between them.”

Happy reading!
