Bloodlines Series by Richelle Mead
Goodreads Summary of Book 1:
I wasn’t free of my past, not yet.
Sydney’s blood is special. That’s because she’s an alchemist – one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets – and human lives. But the last encounter Sydney had with vampires got her in deep trouble with the other alchemists. And now with her allegiences in question, her future is on the line.
When Sydney is torn from her bed in the middle of the night, at first she thinks she’s still being punished for her complicated alliance with dhampir Rose Hathaway. But what unfolds is far worse. Jill Dragomir – the sister of Moroi Queen Lissa Dragomir – is in mortal danger, and the Moroi must send her into hiding. To avoid a civil war, Sydney is called upon to act as Jill’s guardian and protector, posing as her roommate in the unlikeliest of places: a human boarding school in Palm Springs, California. The last thing Sydney wants is to be accused of sympathizing with vampires. And now she has to live with one.
The Moroi court believe Jill and Sydney will be safe at Amberwood Prep, but threats, distractions, and forbidden romance lurk both outside – and within – the school grounds. Now that they’re in hiding, the drama is only just beginning.
My Review: I remember seeing this series come out a while ago and I usually don’t like to read series with more than 3-4 books and I wasn’t sure if I wanted a spin-off of vampire academy but I liked them so much I eventually decided to give it a try. Let me start out by saying I am so glad I did!
This series was amazing and had me completely captivated. I barely did anything else and I flew through the whole 6 book series in only a few days…
There were so many different elements to these books: the alchemists, the warriors of light, the Moroi and Strigoi, the witches, and the ex-alchemists, and I loved every one of them. There were some really stressful parts of the book that I tried to read as fast as I could because they were so good and I had to know what happened next. I honestly thought the story got better and better the more I read and it never slowed down for a nice relaxing moment.
I think the magic in this story was really unexpected for me and it was honestly my favorite part of the series. For some reason, I love books about magic because it makes me feel like I can do spells and do everything they can do. The romance in this book was also one of my all-time favorites. The sexual tension kills me because the amount of time she waited to make something happen was so long and so painful. I wasn’t even sure if she was going to do something about it because of how long nothing happened but it was brilliant.
Richelle did an amazing job with playing with my emotions because I seriously got so angry at her father throughout the whole series and I was so in love with Sydney’s love interest, I was just all over the place and she is amazing. I also love all of the minor characters like Eddie and Jill, Rose and Dimitri also play a big role in this book so if you haven’t read the vampire academy read those for sure and then I definitely recommend this series! You have got some serious reading ahead of you!
