review 1: The way Buonomano revealed the layers of human thought processes was fascinating. I was so surprised to find the myriad ways in which we are not the rational beings we would like to think we are. I am glad to be made aware of how often my emotional little lizard-brain takes control and runs roughshod over my rational frontal lobe processes. Being made aware of how I often I tend to make gut-level, irrational decisions can only enhance my functioning as a critically-thinking, rational human being.
review 2: An interesting book about some of the common glitches in our thinking that result from the brain's evolution, structure, and function. Explains our susceptibility to marketing, our fear of people who are different from us, our difficulty in remembering people
... mores' names, our vulnerability to short-term gratification, etc. etc. Be prepared, however: If you are a religious conservative, you might take offense at some of the author's conclusions. less
