Title: The Chaos of Standing Still
Author: Jessica Brody
Genre: Young Adult/Contemporary
Number of Pages: 320
About: Ryn finds herself trapped in the Denver International Airport on New Year’s Eve thanks to a never-ending blizzard on the one-year anniversary of her best friend Lottie’s death. There’s an unread message from her and Ryn refuses to read it. At the airport, she collides with Xander and they accidentally swap phones. The book is written in a 24-hour time frame which describes one chaotic night in an airport on New Year’s Eve which turns into an impromptu party for all the passengers stuck in the airport.
Characters: I could connect to Ryn’s grief on many levels. She was grieving her best friend’s death and I related to her grief as I lost my brother over a year ago. And I loved Xander. I just got another fictional crush *sigh*. The book is written with Ryn’s POV and she also has parts of chapters in which she recalls about her past giving insight on what sort of person her best friend Lottie was. She was this crazy girl making impromptu plans and encouraging Ryn to have fun. Since her death, Ryn feels lost and lonely. The people, Siri and Jimmy, she meets at the airport while planning the New Year’s party are fun. All the characters are super amazing.
Feelings: This book made me cry whenever I related to Ryn’s grief. This book made me laugh at the silly things Xander did and also convinced Ryn to do. This book was such a surprise, I just picked it up on a whim as I had never read any of this author’s books before. And I’m so glad I picked up this book.
Recommendation: YES! A MILLION TIMES YES! I loved this book so much this has just become my favorite read of the year 2017. Even though it has a grieving protagonist, I turned out to be a fun romance and a heartwarming read.
