Badge of Honor
review 1: Not quite as good as the rest of the Badge of Honor series, this one is still worth any WEB Griffin fan's time. This was also definitely one of the fastest reads I've had in a long time. As a result, it was a little disappointing that I was able to finish it in about 8 hours because the story was not as well-developed as it could have been. The plot was not as detailed as many of Griffin's earlier works, and parts of the story-line seemed to bog down in background details that weren't accompanied by more active details and character development. Granted, the only new character seen throughout the book is visiting Texas Ranger Byrth, but I still would have liked him and Dr. Law to have been fleshed out a little more. Unfortunately, many of the other characters in the book s... moreeemed to have only have a tangential connection (despite their vital presence in many of the other books in the series) to this story-line. Disagree if you will, but I found that to be a negative change to the series in this book, even though it did result in a story almost entirely focused on Matt Payne.
review 2: For 300 pages, this was a five star read. Griffin created a fast-paced, yet detailed and totally engrossing story about immigrants, those who would violently take advantage of their plight and the police who work to arrest those who would do so. And then, with tension at its peak, the author rushes through the last 30 plus pages to reach a satisfactory but hurried end. Good book that could have been great. less
