Book Review: Burgess, Gemma – A Girl Like You

A Girl Like You

Abigail is back on the singles market after splitting from her long-term boyfriend. Now, at 27, she finds herself hitting the dating scene for the first time and it’s a minefield. However her new housemate Robert, a grumpy but highly successful lothario, takes Abigail under his wing and offers her his bulletproof guide to dating. Can Abigail successfully navigate the dating scene under his tutelage?

A Girl Like You is a really fresh, contemporary romance novel. The character’s dialogue is very realistic (avoid this book if you don’t like swearing) and the relationships between all the characters feel real and established. Abigail is a warm character and I could identify with her uncertainty about herself or more specifically her career and how easy it is to stay in a rut. I loved Abigail and Robert’s relationship and how they both developed through the course of the book because of one another.

If you like Girls, Sex and the City or This Life and truly contemporary romance novels, you should enjoy this book.
