review 1: An excellent adventure for my first self-published read!Although there is something about the style this book is written in that indicates it was self published, it was strangely captivating and later on hard to put down. The characters and worlds are interesting and fresh, though in some places more explanation would have been good. Very different from your main stream publishers this was a real plus for me. Not as polished as it could have been, some poor word choices and one continuity error (when Dev has the pendant). Still an entertaining read.As with one of my favourite books, I'd be careful who I recommend this to as it is out of the ordinary, and won't appeal to everyone. I very much enjoyed it, however, and will be looking up the sequels!
review 2: WHat
... more attrackted me to this book was the absolutely gorgeous cover and summary that sounded interesting. The book however, failed and disappointed - sadly so.Firts of all the authour uses "rather" and "quite" so many times, I got sick of the words. There are enough synonyms and ways to avoid these words. However, compared to the problems with the story itself, this writing issue is only minor.Even when I had read more than hundred pages of this book, I was still bored. There was nothing keeping me hooked or remotely interested. The story just dragged on and in my opinion nothing ever happens. Even when the border of the Darkland moves for the first time and Llan barely makes it out - I was yawning. It didn't grab me at all.Another problem is to be found with her characters. Eva is okay, though sadly enough in my opinion she is only involved with too many boring and unnecessary scenes and talks too much.LLan is just plain stupid. Even if I forgive her parts because of social anxiety or naivety because her parents are overbearing and overprotective, she is still just stupid. It's annyoing and inspires no sympathy at all. I will not go on reading this series, there was nothing that made me want to find out how this all plays out in the end. less

I just couldn't finish reading it. I found it confusing, nor did I have any desire to finish it.

Engaging fantasy. A little young adult but still fun read.
