Warrior of Rome
review 1: I finally understand why I don't love these books. The history is interesting enough and they're well written enough. It's the main character that's the problem. He is supposed to be this great manly warrior but aside from being really good at killing people he mainly just acts like a college professor. Really? You're a big tough barbarian, you've already sent your most trusted friends to protect your family, and you then break your oath, betray your emperor and instead support the treason of a man you loathe just because he threatens your family? REALLY???
review 2: 3rd of the Warrior of Rome series with our hero Ballista falling foul of his Roman enemies whilst chasing the Sassanid King of Kings, Shapur. A complex tale of Roman politics combined with great act
... moreion. In this novel Ballista has to fight for the safety of his family while his head is being hunted by those in Rome who also conspire against the Emperor. With his close "familia" he must counter and traverse terrors, fights and the depths of himself to see the ones he loves survive. Exciting and worthwhile read. less
