Book Review: Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell

Eleanor and Park published in the year 2012.

The story revolves around two  teenagers Eleanor and Park in August 1986.

Eleanor being a bit chubby with a bizarre dressing sense and red curly hair. Being the new girl in town and her appearance she is bound to get bullied. Living in a new house with a different daunting step father and four siblings being crammed up in the same room.
Park has the perfect family, a loving parents, a siblings and grandparents. Being half Korean, having small eyes. He understands whats it like to be stand apart from the crowd.
First being forced to share the same seat on the bus. Park and Eleanor are having silent conversations of their own.

Eleanor finds solace in Park’s company.

There are so many things that I didn’t like about this book and so little that I did like.
First, the story featured August of 1986. I find it difficult to digest the feelings they had for each other.

Secondly, the story line was a bit offbeat for me. Actually there wasn’t any storyline if considered.
Thirdly the ending wasn’t conclusive. So many questions were left unanswered. Nothing about their relationship, what happened to Eleanor when she reached her Uncle’s. Did her mother found out about Richie? Did Eleanor and Park ever meet again?
There isn’t anything exceptional about the writing style or narration that could be praiseworthy.
