review 1: I liked it. Russia and spy thrillers can be exciting and this one was particularly interesting. Anna is a former KGB colonel and is in hiding with her young son after her husband (also a spy but for the British) is murdered. She is threatened and exposed, finally leading up to catching a long-time spy Mikhail. The details of setting up a sting and really being aware of your surroundings is training that a typical author might not have, this one seems to have been very close to the CIA or FBI as possibly and informant or "intelligence officer". Either way, a lot of detail was taken care of in this book. The story itself gets a little wound up politically and I had a hard time remembering who was on what side and what the political implications would be in certain c... moreases.
review 2: This was a Free Friday nook book that I enjoyed more as I read. Spies aren't terribly sympathetic characters, unless perhaps they are on our side. The main character is Anna, a former Russian colonel, who has defected. Her husband was killed by a Russian, and she has a two year old son referred to as Little Finn--after his father--who is obviously not the best of circumstances, as he could be kidnapped. Were this to happen, she would do almost anything to get him back safely. She is very well trained and there are some exciting sequences in the book. Fairly fast paced, informative and quite readable. less
