Book Review: Siege And Storm by Leigh Bardugo

Hey Guys!

It is finally the weekend again! This has been a really long week! Oh well, since we are finally at Saturday it is time for another book review! whoop whoop! And this week I am continuing with a series that I started a few months ago. Yep, I am finally continuing with the Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo, so, without further ado, here is my review for Siege And Storm!

I have mixed feelings about this book, which is not something that I thought that I would be saying when I first picked it up. I loved the first book. It was one of my favourite reads last year, but I found this book hard work.

I read Shadow And Bone in one sitting last year, I whizzed through it. There was so much going on that I just could not put it down. And I was expecting the same going into Siege And Storm, but in reality I really struggled with this book. It was much harder work. Even though there was always something happening in the book, it felt very slow paced and it really was laborious to read. it took me nearly 2 weeks to get through this book. It is such a shame that I found this to be so slow and hard going as it really meant that I did struggle to get into the story.

But, ignoring that element, the actual story was enjoyable enough. I feel like this book went even darker then the first book. I mean, this whole book is basically just a preparation for annihilation. It has some seriously dark and twisted storylines. I mean between the whole Baghra storyline, Alina being kidnaped and stated for weeks, insane pilgrims and hallucinations, there wasn’t much light about this book. But I quite like it when books are this dark. It makes them interesting and makes you want to keep reading. Although I did find the story slow, I did really like the direction that some of the storylines took.

I also have to comment on the characters. I’m still not sure how I feel about Alina and Mal (they still kind of annoy me and I don’t know why) but I completely fell in love with some of the new characters that we were introduced to. I really fucking love Nikolai! He is an amazing character. I love him. he just so sarcastic and funny, but also clever and charming and caring. I love the fact that with him you can never tell if he is doing something for his own gain. I just think that he is a really interesting character and I cannot wait to see more of him (yay for the fact that he is getting his own series!). I also really liked the twins, although I did kind of predict the twist with them. I am intrigued to learn more about them in Ruin And Rising.

Overall, despite the fact that I did struggle to get through this book, I did enjoy it. I am really starting to see what all the hype is about with Leigh Bardugo.

4 out of 5

I am really curious to know if anyone else found this book to be hard going? Or if it is just me. Oh well. I am glad that I have finally read this one. Have you read it? what did you think about it? do you love Nikolai? I hope that you have enjoyed todays post and I will see you all again very soon.
