The Accident by Glen Ebisch is a fast paced suspense that includes crime, mystery and a beautiful house on the beach. It is a fairly quick read, largely due to its suspense factor that I enjoyed very much.

Karen Walker is an ex cop recovering from a car accident that occurred a year ago. Her husband was killed in it while she survived but even having undergone numerous surgeries, did not help with her guilt of it all. She is on a medical leave when her old friend, Clarissa, contacts her to help find her younger sister, Justine, who is missing. Since she has nothing better to do, Karen takes up the challenge and shifts to the beach house where Justine had been staying just before she disappeared. Karen takes up the same job that Justine had, as a hostess in a restaurant and tries to gather as much information as she can. While Justine’s husband, Jimmy, is a suspect, Karen’s experiences with the neighbors and locals lead her to believe that perhaps Justine was abducted. When Karen herself has a close encounter with a masked man with a knife, she knows that there is something deeper and serious brewing here than just a disappearance.

Well, to begin with, the story is very well paced. I must say, I enjoyed reading the book primarily because it as a no-nonsense one with enough details, no beating around the bush. The writing is in a narrative style and in the first person, from Karen’s perspective. Although I liked the pace and everything else, I couldn’t say the same for the story line in itself. Somewhere mid way, I could guess who the perpetrator was and as I found out, I was right, sadly.

Apart from the one flaw mentioned above, I think it is a well written book with equal weight given to the suspicious environment, the characters and their emotions. A good book for suspense/mystery readers.
