Character analysis: Elizabeth Midford

Character analysis: Elizabeth Midford (Lizzy)

-Lizzy is a sweet lady, and she has an interesting temperament. Being the daughter of the Head of the ‘Order of the British Empire,’ as well as, the future wife of Queen’s Watchdog, Lizzy was trained by her mother to defend herself. Surprisingly to most, Lizzy, actually was naturally more skilled than her brother and many boys combined. She was even envied by Charles Grey.

-Lizzy is someone who always puts others’ feelings before her own. At her best, she is kind and sweet and understanding. I like how passionate and devoted she is. But, she is still 14, and her personality has much to be developed. We grow as people our entire lives, but the personality that we have in our teenagehood is not written on stone.

-The words that Real Ciel uttered about him not wanting a strong wife, made her hide that part of the personality that makes her protective towards the ones she loves and her chivalrous side. Lizzy started to obsess over cute things more, and to hide her need to take a more protecting role in her relationship , which was seen as a masculine thing during the Victorian time.

Real Ciel was her playmate, and she always dreamed of having to always stay with him forever. From the flashbacks, we see that she and Real Ciel were together often, and were quite good friends.

-Yana has stated in one of her blog posts, that she made boys resemble their mothers more, while she made girls resemble their fathers. Lizzy seems to be a lot like her dad, and not only in the physical appearance. They both find Our Ciel really cute and adorable, and tend to suffocate him with hugs.

-Sometimes, I wonder whether Lizzy, if she could choose, would  be a knight or  a lady. If marrying her cousin was out of the picture, what kind of life would she choose for herself? I think she would still choose to be a lady. Lizzy loves cute things over swords and combat, but she took up the swords so she would defend her friend and fiancé, who is weaker than her.

That need to protect her fiancé was only made stronger, when Our Ciel’s entire family was murdered; that made Lizzy realize that being the Watchdog is an incredibly dangerous job. Lizzy knows that future life with Our Ciel won’t always be easy, but sometimes they would even be attacked, and Our Ciel would be in great danger.

Lizzy doesn’t wear high-heel shoes so Our Ciel can appear taller. She cares deeply about Our Ciel’s feelings and wants him to feel confident.

Lizzy is capable of sacrificing much for the ones she loves, even at this young age, when the majority of people are too self-obsessed with their own feelings and their world to notice other’s feelings. I know that many finds that side of Lizzy annoying, but she is still 14 years old. Given the right circumstances and direction, Lizzy can grow up to be quite a great woman. She grew up in a time where girls weren’t supposed to protect their partners. She is strong, and she was kind-of-forced to hide it. In the end, no one can deny her love for Our Ciel.

-I like how Lizzy treated Sieglinde, despite this tiny misunderstanding, which could cost Our Ciel’s life. I love how she encouraged Sieglinde.

-This is the third character on my list of Character analysis for Kuroshitsuji, and it took me twice of the time to write than other articles, despite that there are fewer words. I like Lizzy as a character, though she is hard to pin down, in a sense. Many don’t like her, but I think that Kuroshitsuji would be more serious and maybe more boring without her. I mean with the perfectionist Sebastian, and quite serious Our Ciel, we need someone to spice up the atmosphere. Remember when Lizzy managed to lizzify the mansion, the servants, and even Sebastian and Tanaka got lizzified by her. She brings light to Our Ciel’s life, and makes the series more comical. I just love the expressions by Sebastian and Our Ciel, when they found out what she had done to the mansion. What do you think?
