“It was past time justice was served for those who’d been killed, and she was ready to do the serving” (location 1981). This sums up Haley’s desire even though the crime was committed 25 years ago and a continent away. Haley is an interesting character. She doesn’t even know her own history yet the consequences have shaped her whole life. Danger comes at her in ways she couldn’t begin to understand. Multiple villains and not knowing who was responsible for the attacks on Haley kept the action very intense. There was great suspense. Things kept moving along quickly. It was an exciting read.
While one can read this book as a stand-alone, it is better to have the context of the elite guardians, I think. I love suspenseful, action-packed books and this one nailed it for me. I couldn’t put it down and I’d highly recommend this book by one of my favorite authors.
