The Alexa Montgomery Saga
review 1: "The Rise", book three of the Alexa Montgomery Saga, has definitely been the most heart wrenching of all the books in the Alexa Montgomery saga thus far. Alexa has to make some terribly tough decisions and has her heart broken more times that you can count in this one book. Her dedication and devotion to her sister, Nelly, is tested farther than can even be imagined and she makes some new allies in the mean time. Loyalties are tested all around and characters true natures are revealed. This book will constantly surprise you and will leave you reeling, unable to believe that certain things just happened. The book ends with a king who is hell bent on destroying anything that Alexa and Nelly hold dear.
review 2: This series definitely grew on me and this instalm
... moreent was action packed with so many threads all interwoven throughout the story. Alexa finds it hard to let her defences down and let people in except for Nelly. Despite being a killer, Nelly has always accepted her for who she is and loved her wholeheartedly. Alexa has spent her whole life protecting Nelly and knows no other way. No matter what choices Alexa makes, it never turns out the way she hoped. By trying to save her mother, Nelly is lost to her and she does not know how to get her back. Nelly is overwhelmed as her power becomes stronger and it is getting harder to keep it on a tight leash. Desperate to save her sister and free her friends, she will stop at nothing to achieve it even if it means taking on the King all by herself. I enjoyed the different chapters being told from multiple POV and found it interesting to know what was going on in their minds. Great support characters and I loved Soraya as she seemed like such an old soul in a little girl's body. Kayden and Jack were never really in a love triangle though it seemed that way initially as Alexa loved them both but differently. She loved Kayden in a soul deep, having trouble breathing without him kind of way and she loved Jack because he was her beginning and his friendship was the only thing that got her through her turbulent life before coming to Two Rivers. Jackson's involvement while a bit predictable was disappointing yet he redeemed himself in the end. Alexa and Nelly share a special bond, not by blood but by something indefinable as family (the people who we choose to become a part of us)and she would give up her life to save her if that is what it takes and it just might. A war is coming but who will be left to fight and which sister will be left standing? The ending was a pleasant surprise and I did not see it coming. I am looking forward to the last book to see if the prophecy does come to pass. less
