Blackbirds was a bonus track that came with A Thousand Suns when purchased on iTunes. This song had previously been featured on Linkin Park’s online video game, 8-Bit Rebellion! This was one of the songs that was recorded during the Minutes to Midnight sessions, but it did not make it onto the album (Linkinpedia). I heard this song during the era of A Thousand Suns, so I decided to write about it now.
I’ve always thought this song sounded more like those from Minutes to Midnight, even before I knew it was recorded during that time period. This particular song showed me that every Linkin Park album has its own sound. Songs that were recorded around the same time as other songs on an album tend to sound like that specific album. After I became more familiar with Linkin Park’s discography, I listened to this song and thought it resembled songs from Minutes to Midnight. To me, it feels the same as those songs. It’s a little dark and gloomy like those on Minutes to Midnight, and it doesn’t have the electronic sound like A Thousand Suns.
In the upcoming posts, I will be writing about a few other non-album songs. One of them is a little out of order chronologically, but I don’t think anyone will be too upset about that!
