review 1: 2.5 stars.Written on your Skin was a rather difficult book for me to rate. And that is because when I started reading it I really enjoyed myself but after a point the whole story just dragged on and on, not to mention all those huge plot holes.There was so much potential in this story and quite a few things I liked, but in the end of day I couldn't just ignore all those gaps in the narration or how things kept happening with no apparent explanation or with no further mention or how easily characters were mentioned only to be discarded a few pages later for no reason whatsoever (The Sheldrakes, Mina's servant, the supposed spy the couple encounters on a train and the list can go on and on...)Throughout the whole story I kept waiting for some things to be explained, for the ... moremain characters to get a real background only to be very disappointed in the end...So sadly, even if there was potential in this story to be great, the execution ruined everything...
review 2: At first I thought it was boring, at times it felt like things were going no where slowly until I realized I needed to shift my gears. Meredith Duran's writing is superb. I think Mina is probably one of a handful of fantastic Heroines ever written in this genre. I fell in love with her immediately. So very layered. Phin and I had a harder time,but at the end of the book I loved him just the same. There are some really hot scenes in this book and I did love Phin's filthy mouth. I thought the ending was abrupt and a bit wtfish but it didn't take away from the downright delicious prose in this book. I'm looking forward to Ms. Duran's backlist. less
