(Buffalo, N.Y.) – For over 50 years, the Richardson Olmsted Complex (formerly the Buffalo State Asylum for the Insane) has sat vacant adjacent to the SUNY Buffalo State campus.
In the past few years, a portion of the complex has been transformed into the Hotel Henry, a multimillion dollar resort and conference center that opened April 30.
The Hotel Henry occupies over 180,000-square-feet with 88 guest rooms and various conference and event centered rooms. It also offers a 20,000-square-foot conference center designed to host groups of all sizes.
The project, which was designed by Flynn Battaglia Architects, began the fall of 2012 and took over four years to complete after several delays in the designing process.
“I’m excited and relieved that we are actually able to open and have the general public actually use the building,” said Courtney Creenan-Chorley, an architect who has work on the project since the beginning.
“The space has never been accessible to the general public before so this is really the first time that it will be open and available to really anyone that wants to go inside,” she said.
The Hotel Henry will also feature a few galleries that will highlight the history and architecture of the historic complex.
It will also include a restaurant called 100 Acres, which opened May 5.
