review 1: I had not read a book in the Joanna Beady series for a while, and I enjoyed this one. Life in Bisbee, AZ, goes on as Jance's cast of local characters weaves in and out of two homicides and two cold cases. The protagonist finally seems to be sorting out some of her personal issues with family members, and her team at the sheriff's department works with its usual efficiency, despite being understaffed, and helps to solve all the cases. Jance probably puts down a few too many clues, making it a little to easy for the reader to know whodunit before the reveal, but still and all, a good vacation read. I will go back and catch up on some of the others that I have missed.
review 2: This book starts out better than it ends, but the characters are interesting and the
... more story line holds up well. Sheriff Brady (a woman) gets a call from her daughter who is out for an early morning horse back ride when she comes across a dead body. The body is that of the daughter's principal at school. The crime seems to be so senseless, and the sheriff has to keep digging to find out the past of the principal. This brings her to locate a long-time friend and a long buried secret. The book is stronger in the beginning, but is nevertheless a good read on CD in a car! less
