Insurgent by Veronica Roth – 4/5 stars
Book #2 in the Divergent series, and full of ups and downs.
We left off from the last book with Tris, Four and a handful of people escaping the Erudite and Dauntless factions, seeking a place to lay low while the inner city gets flipped upside down.
Tris and the others found themselves seeking refuge with Amity. They are able to lay low for a few days while life in the city divides themselves even more. Some Dauntless end up following the Erudite and believe that they are making their world a better place. While the rest of the Dauntless take refuge with the Candor faction. You know that things can’t stay peaceful forever, since Tris and Four were on the run, and they end up making their way back into the city to see if they can resolve anything with anyone. Turns out that the factionless are quietly building an army up and are willing to help some of the Dauntless over run the Erudite faction, this way they can control the government and how things are run. This becomes problematic to Tris and she is determined to prove that Erudite is wrong but that doesn’t mean they should all die.
This book was a simple read, but it was also really… annoying. Why? Well because of the way Tris acted through the whole book until the last 10 chapters or so. Also, her relationship was so strained with Four, and it was known. It frustrated me that she was so stuck in her head that she didn’t regard how others around her would feel. I also didn’t like that she was apart of betrayals in this book. She has some serious PTSD going on, and no one seemed to understand that, because she was supposed to be different and not feel things the same way, which in a way ended up causing her some problems. One question I have for V. Roth is: WHY WAS FOUR SUCH AN ASSHOLE IN THIS BOOK?!
I’m ready to read the last book and maybe the novellas.
Have you read this series? How did you feel after reading this book?
