review 1: This mystery is the third of a series by Ms Robertson. This books takes the reader to the Lake Country of England as, for the first time, readers learn more of the past of one main character, Gabriel Crowder, a dedicated anatomist in the late 1700's. This time he works with Mrs Westerman to solve murders both old and new. I enjoyed the glimpse into rural English life during the time while being completely surprised at the ending.
review 2: I just love Imogen Robertson and this series of her novels. This is the third one with the same two characters solving murders in the 1700's. The history is wonderful, and Ms. Robertson always explains what is real, and what isn't. Most of the history is real. The two individuals are friends and couldn't be more dif
... moreferent. One is talkative, cheery, and seeks out people and clues. The other is quiet, reserved, and the anatomist in the partnership. Their lives are revealed throughout the books so I would recommend starting with the first book, if you can. less

After reading Island of Bones, I had to read the two sequels. I really enjoyed these mysteries!

Just enough suggestion of the supernatural to make this period mystery original.
