Lifeblood by Gena Showalter Blog Tour + A Top Ten Guess Post with Gena Herself

I’ve been in a major dystopian slump lately, with no new releases in the Hunger Games vein striking a chord with me. But as soon as I read First Life a few months back I was once again reminded why I loved the genre so much in the first place. Everything about Gena Showalter’s future trilogy is fun, action packed, and well worth the read. Especially learning about the two realms protagonist Ten has to choose between: Troika or Myriad. So with that near impossible decision in mind, Showalter has chosen where ten of her favorite characters would hang their hats for Ever Life. So without further ado, let’s cut to he characters! Synopsis: “My Firstlife is over, but my Everlife is only now beginning.”
With her last living breath, Tenley “Ten” Lockwood made her choice and picked her realm in the Everlife. Now, as the war between Troika and Myriad rages, she must face the consequences. Because Ten possesses a rare supernatural ability to absorb and share light, the Powers That Be have the highest expectations for her future—and the enemy wants her neutralized. Fighting to save her Secondlife, she must learn about her realm from the ground up while launching her first mission: convincing a select group of humans to join her side before they die. No pressure, right?
But Ten’s competition is Killian, the boy she can’t forget—the one who gave up everything for her happiness. He has only one shot at redemption: beating Ten at a game she’s never even played. As their throw-downs heat up, so do their undeniable feelings, and soon, Ten will have to make another choice. Love…or victory.

Barnes and Noble Buylink Troika vs. Myriad.  Which realm would my favorite book characters choose and why? First, a little about the realms: Troika:  Light brings sight!  This realm reveres justice, equality, and freedom of choice.  It is known as the “light” realm, not only because the sun never stops shining, but because love and forgiveness are more valuable than gold.  Ruled by the Prince of Doves, it is untouched by gloom, and hard work isn’t an expectation but a way of life.  If you don’t work, you don’t eat.  Equality isn’t an ideal but a standard of living, and fear isn’t tolerated as a necessity but considered a hated foe.  Here, logic always trumps emotion.  The people are governed by a strict set of rules, and violators can be kicked out of the realm, but only after an extended grace period. Myriad:  Might equals right!  This realm reveres autonomy, bliss, and indulgence.  It is known as the “dark” realm, not only because it is always bathed in shadows but also because vengeance is encouraged.  Ruled by the Prince of Ravens, its citizens cannot tolerate the light of day.  If you work hard, great, but always party harder.  Here you will find magical forests, and secrets in every corner.  Self-indulgence is revered, and the good times never stop.  Victors are adored and failures are abhorred.  Emotion always trumps logic.  Anyone who fails to put the realm first is punished quickly and harshly. 1. Annalise Morrison from Revelations of a Romance Novel Heroine series by Jill Monroe. Troika!  Annalise an Optometrist who donates her time and energy to the local eye clinic, giving free exams, and looks forward to working with Doctors Without Borders. 2. Evie Greene and Death from the Arcana Chronicles by Kresley Cole:  Myriad!  Evie once embodied the Troikan way of life, but as she has faced tragedy and loss, she has grown determined to do whatever proves necessary to protect her loved ones–and punish those who dare threaten their lives.  And where Evie goes, Death will follow. 3. Gabriel Rossi from the Barefoot Bay Undercover series by Roxanne St. Claire.  Troika!  Gabe spent most of his life embracing the Myriad way. A spy who loved the shadows, his quick temper and relentless focus on winning worked well…until it didn’t. His emotions nearly cost him the only woman he ever loved and his child, but once he was saved by them, he sees the light, gives up the might, and would absolutely choose Troika for his afterlife. 4. Evangeline Ellingham from The Vampire’s Fake Fiancée (Nocturne Falls #5) by Kristen Painter. Evangeline is the spoiled/indulged ex-wife of Sebastian Ellingham, the hero. She’s the villianess of the book and a vampire to boot. She’s firmly in the Myriad realm. In fact, given a chance, she’d probably marry the Prince of Ravens and stage a coop. Unless it seemed like too much work. 5.  Kat Parker from The White Rabbit Chronicles by Gena Showalter (yep, me.)  Troika all the way!  Born with defunct kidneys, Kat has dealt with darkness all her life, the threat of death very real.  Now that she’s part of the afterlife, this hilarious sidekick who sees herself as a star understands the power of Light, and the need for justice.  She will fight for both with every fiber of her being! 6.  Zoey Redbird from House of Night series by PC and Kristin Cast.  Myriad!  As a vampyre Zoey would, of course, gravitate to this world, but Zoey Redbird would lead a revolution because in the HoN world: “Darkness does not always equate to evil, just as Light does not always bring good.” 7. Juliet Cane in the The Ravenous by Amy Lukavics.  Myriad!  Anger and vengeance rule Juliet, whether she wants to admit it or not, and her emotions would trump her logic in almost every situation. Poor Juliet, though—something tells me she’d struggle a bit with putting the realm first instead of herself. Her demise wouldn’t be pretty. 8. Finley Jayne from the Steampunk Chronicles series by Kady Cross. The protagonist of The Girl in the Steel Corset, is a Jekyll and Hyde type of character, so her ‘light’ side would be attracted to Troika. She’s a hard worker and loyal friend who would love a place where she was treated like everyone else and not treated like a freak. HOWEVER… Finley’s ‘dark’ side would be drawn to Myriad because that part of her is driven by anger and violence. She loves to win and has little regard for rules. So, Finley would be able to experience both worlds! Though, if forced to pick, it would be Troika because that world would appeal to her strong sense of justice. 9.  Paxton Seabolt, from The Great Hunt duology by Wendy Higgins. This rugged, hard working hunter with magical hands would choose Troika. For all of his brooding and anger against the government, at heart he seeks fairness and justice for all. His loyalties and love lie with his family. If a woman is lucky enough to win his heart, she will have a man who is forever faithful and willing to spoil her with his intense passion. 10.  Polly Havens from The Book of Polly by Kathy Hepinstall Parks.  This proud, squirrel-hating, margarita-swilling southern gardener would choose Troika!  Being a gardener, she would be attracted to a land where the sun never stops shining. Being a hard worker, she’d fit right in.  And best of all, the rule of “if you don’t work you don’t eat” would apply to the varmints who constantly raid her garden. She would enjoy a land governed by a strict set of rules, and immediately want all spiders mites, raccoons, tomato worms and squirrels escorted out. Tour Schedule:
