review 1: Well, that went from promising, to disappointing, to just awful before it was over. Come on Charles Martin, give me back the Charles Martin I used to love. By the way, I thought it was tacky to refer to one of your own books as the date movie. And as a woman, I liked the parts about firearms and Texas ranger facts, and that was about it. I'm not kidding. My eyes hurt from so many eye rolls. Now, untie and ungag the real Charles Martin. Please.
review 2: *Disclaimer: I only got half-way through this book.* I tried. Really, I did. I didn't go into this book expecting it to be something that it wasn't. I knew this was going to be something akin to the bastard love child of Louis L'Amour and Jackie Collins. But rather than being good 'ol fashioned western fun or sa
... morelacious gossip dripped pages, what I found was two dimensional characters battling for the "best cliche" awards and a maddeningly employed literary device ala "Dear God" journal entries that have the distinct voice of an older man trying to write like a 12 year old girl. Just to be kind, I will point out that other reviewers have suggested that the author's other books ring more true. As to such claims, I will leave it to other readers to decide. That said, I cannot think of a type of reader or audience I would recommend this book to. less

A little hokey and pretentious but I did get tears with one scene. More of a romance novel.
