Make A Christmas Wish by Julia Williams Review

Livvy is dead and she sure as hell not happy about it. So when she is given a chance by the powers that be to return to her family as a ghost to make things right she grabs it but her idea of what’s right for her family is very different to the one of her spirit guide Malachi as he spends the book trying to help Livvy make amends but his advice falls on deaf ears. Stubborn and determined to return to her family and “fix” her long damaged relationship with her husband, Adam,  she tries to evict his new girlfriend from her home by scaring her half to death with her hauntings but Emily will not leave so easily; its girlfriend vs dead ex in this Christmas tale as Livvy only has until Christmas eve to win back her husband and son or she’ll be stuck in limbo for eternity…

There is a lot more to this story and its actually quite complex but that’s what makes it so good, its unpredictable and not what you’d expect from a ghost story. I would describe it as an emotional rollercoaster that makes you laugh, makes you cry and makes you want to scream in frustration because the characters are just so… human even Livvy who’s a ghost. I must admit I found the tale quite relatable as the relationship between Adam, Livvy and they’re son Joe is similar to that of my parents and sister. Adam does so remind me of my dad but luckily Emily isn’t like my dad’s girlfriend and I actually started to like the character to my surprise!

The story is told from each of the four character’s point of view which was confusing to me as the POV would change several times within a chapter but that allowed me to get to know each of the characters and understand their motives. Also the story had a bit of a nonlinear timeline going on causing more confusion as you jump from Christmas past, present and future out of chronological order so you really have to pay attention for that. Other than that I really enjoyed it and would recommend it if you are looking for an emotional but heart warming Christmas tale with relatable characters and a lot of imagination.
