review 1: "All growing up means is that you realize no one will come along to fix things. No one will come along to save you". - p.220Damn is this book good. It is so deep and is about a girl learning to live with herself and without her best friend. It's a depressing book, yes, but it's also a book that teaches you things. Scott has created such a good novel with a heart-wrenching plot, you won't want to stop until you finish.
review 2: Love You Hate You Miss You by Elizabeth Scott tells the story of two best friends in a car accident and only one surviving. The survivor, Amy, goes through a terrible depression that gets her sent to a rehab facility. She doesn’t know how to move on without her best friend, Julia. The rehab makes her talk to a psychologist about Jul
... moreia. Amy doesn’t think therapy will help her because the psychologist, Laurie, doesn’t know her situation. After seventy-five days of rehab, Amy leaves rehab with a notebook given to her by Laurie for her to write about her feelings. Instead, Amy uses the notebook to write letters to Julia. In the letters, Amy tells Julia about her life without her. She feels lost and lonely because she doesn’t have any other friends to talk to. What Amy really wants to talk to Julia about is her parents. Amy’s parents don’t treat her like she is the focal point of their lives. She often calls herself the third wheel of the family because her parents didn’t plan on having kids. Her parents try to help her through the difficult time but often make Amy more irritated. Along with her parents, school irritates Amy as well. She doesn’t have friends anymore and is an outsider that showed up back to school half way through the year. Her old friends will not take her back so she goes through school alone. Her notebook helps her along because she feels like she is talking to Julia again. When she starts to retell the story of the accident in the notebook, Amy realizes something about herself. This book was one of my favorites by Elizabeth Scott. I liked the way Scott incorporated Julia in the book even though she is dead. The story was very fast because each chapter was broken up into two sections. The first half was what was going on in Amy’s life and the second half was Amy’s letters to Julia. I liked reading the letters to Julia because there was a significant difference from when Amy was talking about herself to when she was talking to Julia. Amy’s voice was much more open and less lonely when she was writing to Julia. I also liked how Amy’s parents were different than normal parents in typical YA books. They were very much in love with each other and wanted everyone to know it, unlike the books were the parents are having marital problems or absent. This book is directed towards teenage girls for the main character being a girl writing to her girl best friend. Overall, I thought this was a nice and quick read that had a good story line. less
