March Books

Here is what I read throughout March.

Lipstick Jungle by Candace Bushnell

After having a few days where I had lost my reading mojo, I decided to give this a try. For those of you who are unaware of who Candace Bushnell is, she wrote the now infamous “Sex and the city” book. Going on that basis alone I was intrigued, as this book centres around the live of  four successful business women, who are also  all friends.

However, it took me a until chapter 4 to really start enjoying it. At first I thought it was a bit drawn out and did get slightly boring, but, it began to pick up and more exciting things were happening. The story became more apparent. The one thing I did like about this book was how the women were portrayed. They were all independent and fierce. They knew what they wanted and they went out and got it.

I do not usually mind a bit of chic lit but this was just a bit too draining for me, but it is a decent book and worth the read if you enjoy chic lit or are a fan of Bushnell

Angel Dust by Sarah Mussi

This is one of the books I accidentally came across while browsing in the local Poundland. I do not usually pick books up based on their cover, but something kept drawing me to this. In the end I picked it up and read the blurb. To my surprise I actually liked the sound of it.

To begin with I really was not keen on the book. I just could not relate at all to the characters. There was something about it that made it feel very British but also stereotypical of youths which was kind of annoying.

I suppose it is a good read for the younger audience that it is intended for but, unlike other books that have featured supernatural romances, it was rather bland. It’s continuing  repetitiveness of God and Satan could be annoying at times and the main character herself was not very exciting, she was way too naïve for a supposed heroine.

The Crossing Places by Elly Griffiths

After two books that were not gripping in the slightest, I decided to give this one a go, seeing as it has been on my book shelf for a while. At first I thought I was going to hate it, but, it turned out to be a surprisingly gripping book with an unexpected twist.

This book is a must read for anyone who loves thriller and crime novels. I cannot wait to delve into the second book of the series.

Monster High: Boo York, Boo York Junior Novel by Perdita Finn

I love the Monster High movies so when I saw this is a local Poundworld, I ended up picking all the books up that were available.

I was surprised how well written the book is. The chapters are rather short but than can be expected. The detailing in the book is decent. It really captures the imagination and if you have seen the film then you will no doubt read the words in the voices of the ghouls, especially the parts that are sung.

Monster High: Haunted Junior Novel by Perdita Finn

As with the previous book, I did not have very high expectations, but, again I was rather surprised at how well written and detailed these books are.

They are really enjoyable for even adults, especially those who are fans of Monster High.
