review 1: This book has a very interesting view into the life of Queen Elizabeth I. The idea that she conceived and delivered a chil in secret only fuels the fires upon which the "virgin Queen" rumors circulate. While this book was fiction, it opened a whole new real of reasons why the reign of Queen Elizabeth was so successful. History buffs who enjoy approaching history with ideas that are not found in the history books will thoroughly enjoy this book!
review 2: Historical fiction, is, without a doubt my guilty pleasure. My history and English degree has definitely combined in such a way as to make these my 'go to' books when I want something light and thoroughly enjoyable to read. It's the mix of tantalising fact, with shocking fiction (and sometimes the even more sho
... morecking truth!) that make these completely irresistible to me.Ella March Chase certainly succeeded in writing about something which really gripped my imagination. Perhaps if I wasn't so caught up in the intrigue and the suspense, I would be more critical of the writing style and particular scenes which were tired and more than a little contrived, but like any addict - a good plot line will help me forgive and forget! less

Sub par writing paired with a feeble premise...oh well I have read worse.
