review 1: I felt like this dragged on for quite a bit. I am glad to get to know the characters a little better but it was just... slow. Which is a little weird considering that it was, in theory, action packed. Also, I'm not sure if I'm an idiot or something, but for some reason, in all these books and novellas, I can't grasp the timeline in which things are happening. I may have to read this again and pay closer attention.Also, I feel like it is beneficial to have read the books in the Fire and Thorns series in order to appreciate this and want to know more about Mara.All in all though, it is a nice, short, enjoyable read.
review 2: This novella tells the back story of one of the supporting characters of The Girl of Fire and Thorns. It has nice character arc, and I real... morely love the insights it provides into Mara's character. It really helps you understand the decisions that she makes in the other novels. The novella was action packed, and was a powerful story of the terrors of war and abuse. I Wish it hadn't ended with a scene from the first book. I really like it when novellas can stand on their own, instead of requiring another book for closure. less
