Padiham Sign Alex Wood from Preston

Padiham Sign John Connolly Grandson

Padiham Football Club have this morning confirmed the signing of Preston North End youth team midfielder Alex Wood on a one month work experience loan. The two-footed midfielder was born in Burnley, is most often seen playing on the right-wing.

The hard-working nature and versatility has seen him fill a number of other roles to great effect, featuring on the opposite flank, central midfield and even at right-back. Wood was one of the stars of last season’s run to the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals, netting an injury-time winner in a 3-2 victory against AFC Wimbledon at Deepdale in February.

He is another of the second-year crop to hail from a footballing background. Wood’s grand father was John Connelly, who played for Burnley and Manchester United in the 1960’s and was even a part of England’s World Cup winning squad of 1966.
