When Silla Webb announced that she would no longer be writing, I was genuinely disappointed and sad to be losing this hidden gem. So talk about a huge uplifting shock when she announced a surprise novella! Now, I’ve seen Silla Webb dive into the sweet and romantic with a hint of suspense, but oh man…I had no idea just how well she could excel at dark and dirty, too!
“I’ve carried this burden for thirteen years, never sharing with anyone. And just like that, I’m expected to share every detail of a nightmare that haunts my every waking thought?”
Rock Bottom is told from Josh’s point of view, in a very unique way, and I absolutely devoured it. There was something about getting into his psyche that proved to be twisted, but also illuminating given his past. Though it doesn’t excuse his behavior from the first books in the series, it definitely opened my eyes and made me feel a bit of sympathy and pity for him. I also have to point out that Webb’s writing style has grown tremendously since her last book. I’m not sure what she’s been doing in her time of hiatus, but her writing felt elevated to an entirely new level. With the events of Rock Bottom, she has set Drew Varney’s book up perfectly and I’ll be anxiously awaiting it. I sure have missed this author’s writing, but if this novella was any sign, she is back with a vengeance and I could not be more ecstatic!
