In winter, tens of thousands of Red-winged Blackbirds roost in the reedbeds that lie on the western end of Lake Seminole. You can watch this evening spectacle on River Rd, which runs north from the little town of Sneads in Jackson Co. Florida. The birds start to fly in about an hour before sunset. Cooper’s Hawks and Northern Harriers are often present and small flocks of wading birds and gulls fly in to roost on and around the lake as well. Partially cloudy evenings produce spectacular sunsets so take your camera!
