review 1: A simple (in the traditional sense) man and an intellectual fall in love. It shouldn't work. There should be an imbalance. We should be constantly questioning what these two see in each other and we should be left, at the end, wondering just how much longer they'll last. It should have been a condescending, frustrating mess. Of course this beautiful story is anything but. Both characters are such good hearted individuals and it's just so satisfying to watch them bring out the best in each other. It's a feel good book and I didn't want it to end.
review 2: This did not work for me. At all. Al seem a lot more than just slow or dim witted, as others have described him. To me, he came across as much more than slow. He didn't what what design meant for crying out
... moreloud and he didn't seem to understand emotion. The story is told completely from Al's POV and I didn't really feel anything from him. There isn't really much of a plot or story and it just seemed like the internal ramblings of a gay british Forrest Gump. Maybe if I got a little of Larry's POV I could at least understand how their relationship could possibly work or survive long term. I don't know, this just was not for me I guess. less

Sooo sweet and a refreshing change. We all need more people like Al in our lives.

His point of view, while sweet, was much too simple for me.
