“all that lives must die, Passing through nature to eternity.” Hamlet Bill S.
I hate to admit it, but I’ve not actually read Hamlet. I know, how can I call myself a Shakespeare fan? It’s on my to read list.
Unintentionally, I have chosen two quotes this week along the same theme of death; this week’s Wednesday Wisdom was from Jacob Grimm, “I’m Death and I make sure everyone is equal.”. I believe they both are positive thoughts and messages.
After a bit of research, this is Hamlet’s mother’s way of reassuring him after his father’s death. That death is to be expected, that it is natural, and part of life. To cast off his gloominess and pursue life.
Previously I spoke about how death, and rain, is what levels us all- this quote to me reminds us of living life and our legacy. We will all end up in that eternity, but it is what we do before we enter- what we do when we’re going through ‘nature’ that means something. We can go into eternity knowing we have lived as we pleased, or full of regrets.
It is up to us to decide.
