Shinola Runwell Chrono

Today we are taking a look at one of my favourite watch brands that is increasing in popularity within the timepiece industry.

These are not luxury watches but you do have to spend a little. We are going to look at what you get for your money.

The watch under review is the Shinola Argonite-5021 aka the Runwell Chrono.

Custom:

Shinola brings you customising options with this chronograph. There are several case, dial and strap variations so you can piece together the watch you want. This watch also comes in two case sizes, 40mm and 47mm.

Inside:

The Runwell Chrono boasts the Argonite-5021 chronograph movement. It is supplied by Ronda AG in Switzerland and is then hand assembled in Detroit by Shinola’s fully trained staff. This is what they mean when they say “Built in Detroit,” it is literally built in Detroit. It is a quality and trusted movement for its price tag.

Case:

The case feels very sturdy and well made, almost weighty. It features two pushers, one on either side of the crown, to operate the chronograph feature. The crown itself throws another nod to the watches sturdiness with it being a screw down crown and features Shinola’s logo. The lugs curve down which allows the case to sit higher on your wrist which is a really nice touch as it creates a demand for the watch to be seen. Finally the watch has a double curve sapphire crystal to prevent scratches.

Dial:

The dial is bold with the chronograph feature. Sharp colours and Super-LumiNova allows particular parts of the dial to stand out in the lightest and darkest of times. The sub-dials sit between 2-3 and 9-10 with a date square over 6. It is clean and clear.

Conclusion:

This watch is bold and very attractive, the lugs remind me of the early trench watches whilst the dial has the visibility appeal of an aviator. It has influences of different watch styles but ultimately its become its own timepiece.

Solid, sturdy and looks more expensive than its price tag with a variation of cases, dials and straps. It ticks all the boxes for me.
