review 1: Something is happening to Emma Jean Lazarus. It is a new feeling. Could it be that she is in love? Emma Jean is the smartest girl in her grade and is thinking that she has a crush on Will. Emma Jean doesn't really know what a crush is though. So she asks her mom. She told her that a crush is someone who you think of as a really good friend. The school has a prom coming up and Emma wants to ask Will but is scared he will laugh at her. Emma Jean's best friend,Colleen, wants to help her. When Emma Jean finally asks Will he says yes. I think this was a really good book, and would recommend you reading it if you like realistic fiction books.
review 2: I love literature that portrays intelligent school age females. Emma is a bright seventh grader who studies her peer... mores. She put me in the mind of Millicent Min. This tale seemed as much about Coleen as it did Emma, therefore I did not connect with Emma as much as I'm sure the author intended. Additionally it seemed it could have been told in fewer pages and words. It was a story worth telling but it was told blandly. less
