Staying overnight at Thorpe Park

This year, for my boyfriends birthday, I decided it would be cool to go to Thorpe Park and stay at their on-site hotel. We had been before 2 years ago and loved the amount of thrill rides, plus wanted to go on the new Derren Brown ride.I had seen an offer on the hotel stay on HotDealsUK and knew we just had to go.

On 6th September, we traveled down to Chertsey by car. We had done the route before and recognized the way to go easily. Once there, we had to queue up and considering the schools were opening again for the new term I was really surprised how many were there. I had printed out the tickets so it was easy to get into the park. We decided to go straight to the rides, and sort out the hotel later.

I had bought an on-ride photo wristband for the 2 days for £30 so we headed to the kiosk to get this sorted then went on a few of the big rides. Swarm was the first one we went on, and this ride really does scare me as it’s set in a derelict crash scene. However as the roller coaster is so new, its such a smooth ride overall and my nerves soon left me.

Next up was Stealth, but it was closed so we headed to Colossus. The part at the end of this ride is horrific, it loops around about 5 times all in one go.

The park started to fill up quickly by this point, and we decided we wasn’t going to spend money on fast-track as it was so expensive and didn’t seem worth it considering we we’re there for 2 days. We also didn’t want to wait the 1 and a half hrs in queues so we grabbed lunch early.

After lunch we wanted to go on the Derren Brown ride. I can honestly say this is such a good addition to the park. On first go, it was so scary, well even when we went on it later it scared the hell out of me but at least I knew what was coming up.

I don’t want to give too much away about the experience but still want to talk about it. So you queue up, and get asked to pose up a screen, which is how they do the photo like the above one. You get different backgrounds, i chose to use this one as its the best fitting one for the ride. You then queue again and get put in a small rectangle space, waiting to go in. Once inside the first door you watch a stage-type set up, with Derren telling you about the ride and why he made it. You are then led through another door to see a train carriage held up by chains, and led inside this carriage by a conductor! It looked so much like the London Underground, and its this point i was terrified. You are asked to put on a VR set and i wont spoil this part but it sets the scene to what you are going to face. When the VR is playing, the carriage is moving! You are then led out of the carriage to an underground tunnel room, again looking like the London Underground. Again, no spoilers but a lot of screams!
