Summertime Madness Book Tag

I’m a little late to the party, but it is starting to finally feel like summer so I feel like it’s the perfect time to do the Summertime Madness Book Tag.  I found this over at Thrice Read and decided to give it a go.

1. Show a book with a Summery cover! i.e Sun, Beach etc.

I’ve been thinking about the beach a lot lately so I am going to go with my current audiobook which is The Hypnotist’s Love Story by Liane Moriarty. The cover on the Audible version has a seashell that’s in the midst of shattering with a blue cover that just says summer to me.

A couple other summery covers I thought of lately were Mystic Summer by Hannah McKinnon, because of the title. And summer also means delicious homemade ice cream so The Ice Cream Queen of Orchard Street by Susan Jane Gilman also make the cut.

2. Pick one fictional place that would be the perfect destination for your Summer Vacation!

When I think of summer vacations my mind tends to go towards Paris, Italy, or a tropical beach. I’ve also read a lot of dystopia lately, so I don’t think I really want to visit any of those fictional places on my summer vacation.

If I had to pick one fictional place for a summer vacation, I would probably think of The Shell Cottage from  Harry Potter, but I would prefer to not be on the run at the same time. It just seems like a nice place to chill.

3. You’re about to go on a flight to your Summer Vacation. But you want to read a book that lasts for the whole flight so what novella do you choose?

I need more details here! I honestly would probably pick a long book just so that I would have something to read while I was there. I think I am likely to pick something like Look at Me by Jennifer Egan or All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doer.

4. You have a case of Summertime Sadness what happy book do you pick up to shine a smile on your face?

I don’t read a whole lot of happy books, I always manage to find some sadness in them. I think one of the books that is most likely pick up again is Kitchens of the Great Midwest by J.Ryan Stradal.

I wrote a review on this last spring, and it’s a great book full of food, romance, and a little bit of sadness. But I love the story.

5. You’re sitting at the beach all alone…which fictional character would be your beach babe?

Not sure if babe means friend or hot guy who brings me mojitos, so I am going to do both. I want to have Jenna Gray from I Let You Go by Clare MacKintosh  as my beach best friend. She has a cottage on the beach and likes to write messages in the sand, so I think that would be kind of fun.

Actually, this is another beach-y cover. So, I am going to show it off.

As for a guy who will bring me mojitos, I think I would want Cal from Red Queen to bring me mojitos. Now, if I am acting like Mare, I would probably not trust what’s in them.

6. To match your ice cream you want an icy cool sidekick! Which fictional sidekick do you pick?

Well, of course I am going to pick Lily from Lily and the Octopus by Stephen Rowley, because dogs make the best sidekicks! Plus she’d get along with Sissy, my own pug/dachshund mix, so that would be pretty special.

And maybe Lily could translate Sissy’s barks so I could understand what Sissy was thinking.

So that’s it for the summertime madness book tag. What are you favorite things to read during the summer? Leave me a recommendation in the comments below.

No, I am serious, I think I need more happy books.
