He’s the love

of her life, but he doesn’t know it.
She’s his one moment of sacrifice in a lifetime of survival.

He was damaged and wild, but resilient.
She’s always been obedient. Now she’s restless.

Home for the summer between college and med school, Pearl Torres Frank knows two things: Boyce Wynn is the embodiment of everything she should run from, and everything she wants to run to. Rebellious and loud. Unconcerned with society’s opinion of him. Passionate. Strong. Dangerous.

And one m

ore trait he hides from everyone but her:
Sweet.

Pear and Boyce have loved each other since Boyce saved Pearl from drowning. Now Pearl is a college graduate who rejects her med school acceptance to join a marine biology graduate studies program against her mother’s wishes while Boyce takes ownership of his father’s garage after he dies of liver failure. They have things they don’t talk about but they knew they need each other.

Sweet is the third book in Tammara Webber’s Contours of the Heart series. What started as Easy turned into a series of spinoffs and I am not mad about it!

What I absolutely truly enjoyed about this book was that I got to see a bit more of Lucas from Easy and hear more about his love for Jacqueline. But now I should focus on the main characters, Pearl and Boyce.

Pearl is the daughter of a Mexican immigrant who came to America to give her daughter the best life. In the process, she lost the love of her life on the journey and has promised to see Pearl succeed. Success to her means medical school, something they have been planning since Pearl was young. It was all she studied for, it was all she wanted – or so she thought. But living in their town, Pearl has lived near the beach and has loved it despite nearly dying in it and she wants to do something to protect.

Boyce is the son of an abusive alcoholic father and a mother who abandoned him and his older brother. When his father dies, he can’t help but feel relieved and happy, taking full ownership of the garage he’s been working in since he was thirteen years old. When he graduated high school, he didn’t have any aspirations to leave town, so he’s surprised when Pearl comes back, wanting to stay in town and work on her graduate degree despite her mother’s protests, Boyce her only support.

Tammara Webber once agains gave me a novel that tore me up and rearranged me. I’m not sure what took me so damn long to read it.

Sweet had the same voice as Easy and Breakable. I know some people crave varieties in storytelling but sometimes I just want to feel like it’s an actual continuation, not completely different, and Tammara Webber’s writing is simply spectacular and it flows so poetically, like I am in love with her writing.

In Sweet, it feels so real, I can see it perfectly in my brain. It felt like Pearl was my friend and I just wished the best for her, and I felt like I knew Boyce and understood his struggles in his own life.

Ah!

I could gush all day about this book!

What I love:

  • The main characters. Pearl is wonderful, Boyce is great. They were created with heart and soul, sometimes I hate one of the main characters, but I was rooting not only for their relationship but for their actual goals.
  • The side characters: Excuse me for this, ahem, SO! MUCH! MENTION! OF! LUCAS!
  • But seriously, the side characters: Boyce’s best friend, the main love interest from Easy, the main character of Breakable, I loved learning more about him. And Pearl’s friends, it was like I seeing the girls I hated in high school.
  • The sense of home: How important home is to Pearl, Boyce’s search of home, as person who feels lost from time to time, it was nice to read about someone who was happy being home and another person accepting what home could mean for them.

What I thought was random:

  • There was a twist. It was weird.*

Now I’m just sitting here, waiting for Brave (the fourth book in the series).

*I can’t really divulge much more information but it was weird to me. But I saw it coming.
