review 1: I had a hard time with this one. I LOVED the author when I met her, and it's totally fun that Dan Dos Santos does the cover art. But the story... um... well, without giving specific spoilers, I'll just say it was awfully convenient that every person the main character knew had these secret abilities she didn't know about to solve the problems she had. Which made me kind of disappointed in the story.I probably won't pick up the other books :(
review 2: I think this might be the first time that I really felt like a love triangle would have been better off being drawn out over the course of several books rather than just dealt with in the course of a single book. The choices here were creepily overattached Jeff and actively hostile Christopher, neither of whom I
... morefound particularly endearing, and it affected my perception of Kitty that she would put up with Jeff's weird obsession and want to jump into a relationship with him after knowing him for, what, two days? This after being absurdly possessive of her right from the moment they met. If the love triangle (well, sort of love triangle) had been given more time, then I think the author could have done something to make me sympathetic to at least one of the possibilities instead of just wishing Kitty would run off platonically with Reader and his boyfriend. There's also a touch of the Mary Sue about Kitty and her many revelations. Sometimes an outside perspective can help when it comes to figuring things out, but there were just so. Many. Revelations. Most of them were prompted by very little in the way of evidence, just Kitty figuring things out out of the blue. All that said, it was a fun read, and I do plan to continue with the series. less

A romance novel in sci-fi/fantasy guise. But, a quick and fun read.

Like the lightness but too many sex scenes. No thanks.
