The Afghan Whigs
The Afghan Whigs will tour North America this fall behind their stunning new album In Spades (out now onSub Pop). The 28-city tour will begin on September 6 at The Social in Orlando, FL before taking them through Atlanta, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Boston, Brooklyn, and many more, including several cities they haven’t played in years, like Richmond, Birmingham, Kansas City and Houston. Har Mar Superstar will support on all dates. Tickets are on sale now, and the full list of dates can be found below.
In Spades, the follow-up to the widely-acclaimed Do The Beast (2014, Sub Pop), has been met with rave reviews from all corners. Pitchfork called it “as expansive and substantial as a double-album statement;” UNCUT praised it as “a thrilling, impassioned addition to their catalogue;” The Guardian raved that the band had “ingenuity in spades;” and MOJO deemed the band “back to their dark, soulful best.”
Led by singles “Demon In Profile,” “Oriole,” and “Arabian Heights,” the album was recorded in New Orleans, Los Angeles, Memphis and Joshua Tree, and was written and produced by frontman Greg Dulli.
Following a sold-out show at the famed Apollo Theater in Harlem, the band is currently on a 17-country European tour in support of the album, featuring support from Ed Harcourt at each show. European dates can be found on the band’s website.
