Synopsis: This series follows Ivy, a girl who has always seen things that she cannot explain. Strange things. Otherworldly things. She has always been told that she suffers from hallucinations and that she is merely unwell. Then, one day her sister goes missing, and Ivy discovers the truth is far worse. Demons are real, and her sister is imprisoned in a realm beyond Ivy’s reach. And the one person who can help her is the dangerously attractive rebel who’s bound by an ancient legacy to betray her.
Here are my reviews for the books in this series:
Book 1: The Beautiful Ashes
“You’re the light I can never have…and I’m the darkness you’ll never succumb to.”
What a great start to a new series! Ivy is awesome and kick-ass and Adrian is mysterious and sexy… but then I wouldn’t expect anything less from Jeaniene Frost.
I loved this book from page one and found that I was sucked into the world of angels and demons, just like I was sucked into the world of vampires in the Night Huntress series. Frost is a fantastic story teller, the worlds she creates always captivate and she knows how to write an awesome heroine.
Even though the romance side was a little light (for a JF book that is) I still felt my body tingle when Ivy and Adrian had their moment. I enjoyed the way their story was built and the obstacles given to them. In fact, their story reminded me of Charlie and Reyes from the Charlie Davidson series, which is one of my favourites.
This story had everything I wanted from mystery to romance. I cannot wait for the series to continue and to see what I’m sure will be an epic adventure unfold.
Book 2: The Sweetest BurnSo I enjoyed this book, it didn’t grab me as much as the first one but it still kept me coming back for more. I really love that Ivy has grown from the first book. That she’s now someone who has the mental and physical strength to do what needs to be done. I also loved that Adrian was different this time, that he actually wanted to beat his destiny and yet his nature was still apparent. I hate it when a character is all of a sudden someone completely different. That’s one thing Frost has always done really well in her books, she build characters who can and do grow but are still fundamentally themselves.
The thing I didn’t like about the book was Jasmine, she irritated me a lot. I found her to be more immature than necessary and her presence only made every situation frustrating. And while Zach’s vagueness was sometimes frustrating I found Ivy’s obtuseness about his motives more so.
But overall another great book from Frost. I’m excited to read the next one and see how it all ends
