The Golden Dynasty by Kristen Ashley

Excerpt…

Circe Quinn goes to sleep at home and wakes up in a corral filled with women wearing sacrificial virgin attire – and she is one of them. She soon finds out that she’s not having a wild dream, she’s living a frightening nightmare where she’s been transported to a barren land populated by a primitive people and in short order, she’s installed very unwillingly on her white throne of horns as their Queen.

Dax Lahn is the king of Suh Tunak, The Horde of the nation of Korwahk and with one look at Circe, he knows she will be his bride and together they will start The Golden Dynasty of legend.

Circe and Lahn are separated by language, culture and the small fact she’s from a parallel universe and has no idea how she got there or how to get home. But facing challenge after challenge, Circe finds her footing as Queen of the brutal Korwahk Horde and wife to its King, then she makes friends then she finds herself falling in love with this primitive land, its people and especially their savage leader.

Background…

Let me first say, Kristen Ashley is a romance author goddess. She wrote one of my favorite romance novels, “Knight”. As a huge (read: hugggeeee) Game of Thrones fan, this book is everything you could want out of a similar world with all the romance you could want.

Characters…

Circe is another likable heroine. As a character she is very relatable and level-headed and her fear about her situation is palpable. She experiences quite a culture shock but falls in love with Dax Lahn (think Kahl Drogo), however, he is not an unfeeling beast. I love Drogo, don’t get me wrong, but at the beginning of his marriage he raped Daenerys quite often. But Dax Lahn is very lovable though controlling and possessive, but if you read romance novels, its a good thing.

World Building…

This book is extra cool because not many paranormal romance books take place in a completely different dimension/world. Therefore, Ashley gets major creds for creating this thought-out, extensive world that is complete with their own customs and language. I even started memorizing some Korwahk words, which is a good sign that I was paying attention.

Steaminess…

You may need to turn on the AC for this read, it is pretty hot.

Overall…

If you love Game of Thrones and want to skip all the plot that isn’t romance, I highly recommend this book. If you don’t like Game of Thrones, you probably won’t like this book. If you have never seen Game of Thrones, you are in for a treat. If you love protective men of power who will guard their Queen at all cost, look no further than Dax Lahn.
