Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.
Happy New Year! I hope 2018 has been kind to you all so far. So, I was looking into this topic, and I noticed that a lot of the books I read in 2017 were by authors I was already familiar with. This weeks list is going to be on the short side, but here are the new to me authors I read in 2017.
1. Wanderlost by Jen Malone: I was surprised by this book. To start, I was wary of it because the premise seemed a bit out there, but after reading the book I found it was more about Aubree’s personal growth as she tests her very limits, takes risks, and broadens her horizons.
2. The Winner’s Trilogy by Marie Rutkoski: Hands down one of the best fantasy series I’ve read. This is a series that intimidated me at first. All I’d heard about was the pain and anguish the characters endured in the books and it made me nervous. However, while the trilogy is full of angst and sorrows, there’s a lot of hope in it as well. More than that, the characters follow a stunning arc and the series does a phenomenal job at highlighting the strength of each of our core characters.
3. Rusk University by Cora Carmack: Sports contemporary romances dominated a lot of my reading last year and I’d read some great reviews about this series. I must say I really did enjoy all three books in the series and found that the books got better with each installment. All of our main couples were well matched, and I enjoyed the fact that while the romance dominated the books it didn’t mean that other aspects of their lives and struggles were neglected.
4. Mister Hockey by Lia Riley: In my search for hockey-related books, I stumbled upon this gem. It’s not one of those books that will blow you away, but it was enjoyable and light-hearted, which was exactly what I needed at the time.
5. The Bird and the Sword by Amy Harmon: The last book I read in 2017 and it did not disappoint. I’ve been wanting to read an Amy Harmon book for a while but found I had to be in the right mood for it.
6. Outrun the Moon by Stacey Lee: One of the first books I read in 2017 and it was a delight. I loved the historical setting and exploring the social hierarchy and norms from that period. But most of all, I loved Mercy’s resilience in ensuring she gets a better life for herself and her family and how she helps steer a group of young girls into embracing and celebrating their differences.
