Yuki Cross has no memory of her past prior to the moment she was saved from a vampire attack ten years ago. She was adopted by the headmaster of Cross Academy, and now works alongside Zero to guard the Academy’s secret. Cross Adademy is attended by two groups of students: the Day Class and the Night Class. At twilight, when the students of the Day Class return to their dorm, they cross paths with the Night Class on their way to school. Yuki Cross and Zero Kiryu are the Guardians of the school, protecting the Day Class from the Academy’s dark secret: the Night Class is full of vampires!
Welcome! Here is my review of Vampire Knight; Vol. 1 by Matsuri Hino; translated by Tomo Kimura.
My thoughts before reading the manga were that I was very doubtful that I’d even end up liking this manga. I wanted to get into the anime version of the story but ultimately couldn’t (at this point in time). I just found that in the anime Zero is just too angsty and Yuki was too much of an airhead for me to continue on in the anime.
My thoughts after I’ve read the manga:
I really like that the author input that is inbetween chapters!! They seem so bubbly and fun. The author’s input inbetween chatpers was a great reprieve from the semi-seriousness of the story.
Vampire Knight isn’t my favourite, but I enjoyed reading it. I think I’m about as far into the manga as I was in the anime.
The Vampire Knight storyline is interesting, but I think I’ve got a correct prediction for how the rest of the series is supposed to go. If I do end up reading the rest of the volumes that are available through the library, I’ll only be reading the books sporadically.
I gave Vampire Knight 3 of 5 stars on Goodreads.
