Wandering around Liberty Station…we found Solare Ristorante

We decided to wander around Liberty Station to see all the places we had heard about, but did not see exactly where they were located.  Stumbling across Solare was a very nice unexpected pleasure.  They were open, but it was late afternoon…in between lunch and dinner, so it was not very busy.  The hostess greeted us warmly and proceeded to talk about their Happy Hour.  They serve Happy Hour in the bar area and on the patio.

What is so nice is that this restaurant has figured out how they can prepare their small plates so they can meet the needs of the Happy Hour crowd.   Some portions are on the smaller side, but is enough to taste to see if you want to order more.

We started off with the Burrata e Cavolfiori.  This cheese and cauliflower dish has a curry taste, but not too much.  There is a lite dressing with pickled onions so they were not so strong.

We loved the Pizze Pere e Gorgonzola.  Excellent!!  Nice size for $5.  And a very different combination with the pears.  We could have also ordered the Pizze Margherita to add to our meal as the pizzas were a great size and filling.

This next dish, Nidi di Rondine alle Erbette, was smaller portion than I would have liked, but it had a great taste.  These are 2 pinwheels of pasta filled with arugula, spinach and ricotta.  There is a lite sauce made with parmigiana reggiano fondu.  Wonderful compliment to this dish.  We would have ordered 2 of these and it would have been perfect–one dish for each of us.  Delicious!  And I loved the presentation.

Polpette is the meatball dish with a great flavor.  Very nice idea to make this with beef and veal. This is the Solare House Specialty.  It has a perfect braised tomato sauce that is served over it.

What was so nice is the manager, Petra Belliti, came over to introduce herself to us.  She is very personable and very interested in what her customers have to say about their meals.

Please also take a look at their website…there is more than you can imagine at this restaurant.  They also offer cooking classes and events here.  They are also participating in Restaurant Week.  Creative ideas will keep this  restaurant at your top of mind.

A very nice, pleasant way to spend your time.  The decor and location makes this place comfortable to bring any guests with you.
