Archie Sheridan & Gretchen Lowell
review 1: Instead of Gretchen Lowell #4, this should be Archie Sheridan #4. Gretchen doesn't have much of a presence in this book. Maybe that's why I really enjoyed this one. Setting the story in a natural disaster added to its appeal; it was like another character. Add a sicko, an animal, and a child. And a historical back story. All this makes for a well-paced story that got faster near the end. I continue to enjoy the interaction of Archie and Susan. I will read the next book at some point in the future.
review 2: This book was very very light on the Archie/Gretchen storyline but I went into it expecting that and ended up enjoying it quite a bit. The book could almost serve as a standalone, but I also thought it was a good entry in the series because it was so
... more different and didn't feel repetitive in the least. The mystery/thriller part of the story was interesting - flooding and octopuses and kidnappings was a unique twist - and as always, Cain's writing was extremely readable and I'm looking forward to the next in the series! less

although I found this wildly improbable, I stayed up until 2am to finish it. Very enjoyable
