Mercy
review 1: uniquely different story about Mercy an angel who takes to others bodies. Mercy is in carmens body, a young singer who goes to stay with a host family for a interschool concert. the family she is staying with has lost their daughter who was kidnapped. and believed dead. The brother of this girl still believes she is alive, and inlist carmen/mercy to help find her. What I thought was going to be an average YA book, turned out too be an intriguing, mystery. I felt this story was beyond it's YA roots..don't get me wrong I love YA. it's just the typical stereotypes were for the most part not present. The character of Carmen was strong, not boy crazy. and the relationships were real and not rushed. as for the ending, cliffhanger. but I am looking forward to finishing this ... moreseries to see where mercy ends up next.
review 2: This was a very interesting take on angels. I'm starting to read a lot of books that aren't the typical fallen angel romance like Fallen and the Hush Hush trilogies are and I am undecided on how I feel about them. Particularly this one. Quite honestly, there was barely any angel references in the plot. The girl glows, she imitates one man, and then towards the end she saves the girls. But other than that it seems to be much more of a thriller/mystery type to me. As well, the romance plot was highly underdeveloped. Now I am completely all right with that if there is some larger plot issue that needs to be addressed. But to me, there really wasn't some deeper message that you were supposed to see instead of the romance. I suppose that Mercy and Ryan were never supposed to really connect because she is supposed to be disconnected from most things and most people because that is her sentence but then to me that doesn't make for a very good book. I don't really think I want to read a book about a character that cannot connect with anybody. Because then I can't connect with the character. Or the book. However, I did enjoy the mystery of Ryan's missing sister in the book. I feel like the angel aspect of things could have either been taken out, or played up and the mystery could have been played up and then it would have been a much better book. Overall, I just suppose I was kind of indifferent. The book wasn't awful, the storyline was original, but there was so much more that the book could have been that it just wasn't. less
